SJI SCHOOL SONGS - The Choronology...

Yes, dear Johannians, it is like a clear statement  that somehow, it is our duty to preserve the name and dignity of the Golden Eagle that soars mightily in the air. Hence from all the banes and burden to bring up the school name, it is important for all Johannians to know our school songs, for it is proven to be a very powerful  medium to show ourselves to other schools who we really are and to rectify ourselves unique & strong individuals.
We should feel lucky that our school is being blessed to house a number of talented composers who sincerely put up their efforts just to show their love towards our alma mater. Composers like Mr. Dennis Doss, Mr. Leonard Wong, Brother Lawrence and Brother Augustus D'Cruz are nobody in the world of composition songs, but these noble men has established themselves in the heart of all the former & senior Johannians by their spirit-lifting but yet very meaningful songs that are always being sung during school occasions ...

PANCARAGAM SEKOLAH MEMAINKAN LAGU
"ONWARD ST. JOHN"

SCHOOL RALLY
Cheer, cheer and courage display
All ye Johannians join in the lay
Send a volley of cheers on high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
What though the odds be great or small
Dear old St. John's will win over all
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory!

Rise boys and loudly proclaim
That ye will never sully her name
Let the hills and woodlands ring
Lift up your hearts and loudly sing
What though the way be rough or steep
We unto virtue's summons will keep
And if e'er our country need us
Loyal and true we'll be

Tunjukkanlah keberanian
Marilah semua Johannian
Laungkan semangat berkobar
Hingga angkasa bergegar
Walau apa pun rintangan
St. John tetap berjaya menang
Barisan putera setia
Menuju puncak jaya

(Rev. Bro. Lawrence Spitzig)

THE PLEDGE
We'll strive with all our heart and soul
With faith and zeal to reach our goal
Just like the eagle that seeks to spread
its wings on high
For St. John's we will do or die

Fide et Labore as our guide
We'll do our best we'll do what's right
We'll keep the flag flying high up
on the skies above
And we'll always be ready to serve

We'll tarnish not your name
or it's name of fame
Yes a name that not a blame
can be laid on
Johannians one and all
We'll hearken to your call
This pledge we dedicate in song

Again we pledge our faith in you
We'll be Johannians bold and true
Fide et Labore will be our guide
To spur us on, and we'll sing
song live St. John's!

(Mr. Denis Doss, 1984)

ONWARD ST. JOHN
Let us march on to glory
Ley us surge on to fame
Let us raise our voices and our hearts
Onward! Onward! St. John's

The gold and the green
The white and the true
We are here for you St. John's
Fide et Labore, ever loyal we'll be
The bold, the best and the brave

Let us march on to glory
Ley us surge on to fame
Let us raise our voices and our hearts
Onward! Onward! St. John's
Onward! Onward! Onward! St. John's
(Mr. Leonard Wong, 1994)

ALL THE WAY
All the way St. John's we go for you
All the way or nothing at all
We are loyal we are good and true
All the way we hearken to your call

For you are beautiful
St. John's you're beautiful
Our Alma Mater
We will sing, Fide et Labore!

All the way St. John's we go for you
All the way or nothing at all
We are loyal we are good and true
All the way we hearken to your call

All the way
All the way...

LOYALTY SONG
We are loyal to you
Dear St. John's
We are green white and true
Dear St. John's
We proudly proclaim
That we'll honour our name
Fide et Labore St. John's

We are cheering for you
Dear St. John's
The gold eagle's still soaring
St. John's
We'll always remember
To never surrender
Fide et Labore St. John's
(Rev. Bro. Lawrence Spitzig)

LA SALLIAN SONG
All though the classes a voice is resounding
Promptly respond to your duty's sweet call
Hearken ye all for the trumpet in sounding
Your Mater's proclaiming her watch word to all

*Forward her children dear
Ever with heart sincere
Render with joy to her Mater her due
All the is vile reject
Heaven will e'er protect
Sons of St. John's valiant and true
(repeat*)

THE JOHANNIAN SPIRIT
For the last hundred years
You've always been there
Helping us achieve all our hopes and dreams
You helped through our troubles,
Showed us that you cared
Through all the odds St. John's will reign supreme

*The Johannian Spirit lives on and on
In our hearts, and in our minds
The Johannian Spirit lives on and on
St. John's will ive on, till the end of time

In our youthful days, you were there to help us grow
Guiding us to reach the highest goals
Sharing and caring, teachings us everything we know
St. John's is our life and soul
(repeat * 2X)
(Mr. Freddie Fernandez, 2004)

AULD LANG SYNE
Should all acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to minds
Should all acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne
For auld lang syne my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll take a cup of kindness yer
For auld lang syne

Bertemu dan berpisah
Adat manusia biasa, hilang mata
Tapi di hati jangan lupa
Berdoalah kita agar, aman sentosa
Semoga kita dapat
Berjumpa di lain masa

  1. Mr Denis Doss also wrote a song for our walkathon in the late 80s. Not sure if SJI reused it.

We're collecting money for the walkathon
Come along, sing a song for St John's
And we're doing it with a lot of fun
Come along, sing a song for St John's

Come along (come along) Sing a song (sing a song)
    Come join the happy throng
Come along (come along) Sing a song (sing a song)
Come along, sing a song for St John's

I can't remember the second verse. Something about the rocket and the fuel being still low.

  2. With respect to the School Rally song,
Line 2 should be "fray" instead of "lay"
And line 5 should be "though" instead of "thought"

  3. Pembetulan Lirik Lagu Sekolah :

    Cheer, cheer and courage display
All ye Johannians join in the (FRAY)
Send a volley of cheers on high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
What though the odds be great or small
Dear old St. John’s will win over all
While her loyal sons are marching
    Onward to victory!

Join in the FRAY is actually an English Idiom. It means to join a fight or argument, for our case, for a good cause.
